About the Congress

First held in 2012, the Design and Engineering of Neutron Instruments Meeting (DENIM) is an international conference dedicated to the design, engineering, and operation of neutron instruments and facilities. DENIM XV will take place from September 7 to 11, 2026, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Following previous editions held in Europe, North America, and Asia, DENIM will be hosted in Latin America for the first time.

This international meeting brings together experts, scientists, engineers, and technicians from experimental facilities to exchange experience and knowledge on the design, engineering, and operation of neutron facilities and instruments.

The success of the DENIM meetings led to the creation of the International Society of Neutron Instrument Engineers (ISNIE), which was established in September 2017. The idea for ISNIE emerged from the strong collaboration fostered through the annual DENIM conferences, where a relatively small community of professionals representing around twenty neutron facilities worldwide meets to share expertise and build professional relationships. Recognizing the value of this interaction, the International DENIM Committee (IDC) promoted the creation of an international society to extend these collaborations throughout the year, leading to the establishment of ISNIE.

DENIM XV is hosted by the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina (CNEA) through the Argentine Neutron Beam Laboratory (LAHN), with the support of ISNIE, a community of more than 300 members from over 23 scientific facilities involved in the design, operation, and support of neutron scattering instruments and related infrastructure.

At the end of the first day of the conference, participants will take part in the DENIM Challenge, a collaborative and engaging activity designed to encourage interaction and teamwork among attendees. The challenge will conclude with a wine tasting and a traditional Argentine cheese and charcuterie platter, providing a relaxed setting for networking and informal discussions.

The meeting will also include the ISNIE Summer School, a program aimed at young engineers working in the field of neutron science, as well as a technical visit to the RA-10 Multipurpose Nuclear Reactor, where LAHN will be located.

The neutron scattering community benefits from building relationships and sharing expertise among its members and sponsorship partners.

ORGANIZING INSTITUTIONS

National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina (CNEA)

DENIM XV is organized by the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina (CNEA) through the Argentine Neutron Beam Laboratory (LAHN), with the support of the International Society of Neutron Instrument Engineers (ISNIE), a community that currently includes more than 300 specialists from 23 laboratories, universities, and other neutron research institutes across the world involved in the design, operation, and support of neutron infrastructure and instrumentation. Since 1950, the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina (CNEA) has been the main public body dedicated to R&D in the peaceful uses of nuclear technology. Its main activities include:

  • Development of nuclear technology and the nuclear fuel cycle

  • Basic and applied scientific research

  • Applications of nuclear technology

  • Human resource training

  • Technical support for nuclear power plants
