Recent results and future prospects of ATLAS experiment 45m

This talk will present an overview of recent physics results from the ATLAS Experiment at the CERN LHC. Highlights include precision measurements of Standard Model processes, updated studies of Higgs boson properties, and new searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. Looking ahead, the upcoming High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) phase, starting in 2030, will significantly enhance ATLAS’s discovery potential. The talk will also discuss some of the latest physics projections and upgrade plans in preparation for this new era of data taking.

Removing Galactic foregrounds on CMB polarization maps using convolutional neural networks 15m

Inflationary models emerge within the standard cosmological model ($\Lambda$CDM) as an explanation to the homogeneity of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), the flatness of the Universe, and the non-abundance of magnetic monopoles. The detection of primordial gravitational waves through the B-mode polarization of the CMB could be interpreted as the first indirect measurement of the cosmic inflationary period. However, this detection is challenging due to several factors, including galactic foreground contamination, weak gravitational lensing, and instrumental noise. In this work, we focus on developing a method to remove galactic contaminants from polarization maps obtained by a CMB-S4–like telescope, using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The use of CNNs arises as an alternative to traditional foreground removal methods, which typically require strong assumptions about the properties of these contaminants. In our study, we employ Low-resolution maps to study the impact of the technique over the recombination bump at the multipole scale $\ell \approx 200$. Our simulations include the lensing effect on the primordial spectra, galactic foreground, and instrumental noise. In this work, we demonstrate that this technique effectively removes contaminants from low-resolution maps, resulting in a relative error of less than 10\% for the B-mode power spectrum and below 1\% for the E-mode spectrum.
